With many creative endeavors, you have two primary motivations. Be artistic or be commercial.

There is some room for overlap of the two but first lets define each:

Artistic - An expression of one's self that must be shared.

Commercial - An expression of what people will want to buy.

To the universe, neither one is better than the other. Period.
