Added By: Youngman

Houston, Texas has been known in the Hip-Hop world for it's screwed up southern style of music brought to you courtesy of DJ screw and his proteges. With success comes successors, especially in Hip-Hop. After competing indivually in last years competition and each making it to the semi-finals, DJ Ryu and pyro decided to form like voltron and dominate this years Houston Red Bull Big Tune. Now with a new name and focus, this duo is ready to take the industry by storm bringing the rest of Houston with them. With their unique production style, big dreams, and a solid team on their side, Sound M.O.B is definantly among the next generation of successful producers in the game.

What is your background?

-Sound M.O.B., which consists of Pyro and DJ Ryu, was formed just a little over a year ago. We both were working with the same artist at the time, Yung Krucial, who introduced us to each other while in high school. When we found out we both had similar interest in music production we decided to team up. We have had no professional training in music. Everything we know now came from hard work, dedication, and just a love for good music. Some producers that have inspired us through the years are Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Timbaland, The Runners, Cool and Dre, Doctor Dre, and Dj Toomp to name a few.

Explain where the name Sound M.O.B came from?

-We came up with the name, Sound M.O.B., on the basis that our music is so diverse. It's like an orchestrated mob of sounds. We take different sounds and instruments that most producers wouldn't think to combine and make 1st class beats with them. As for the M.O.B. in Sound M.O.B., our name is an acronym which stands for the Sound of Magnificently Orchestrated Beats.

Do you guys have management or are you making moves by yourself?

-We have a manager. Corneilius Green, Real Deal Management. We had a vision and he believed in us from day one. We were making moves on our own at first, but it got to the point where we felt that we couldn't put 100% of our focus on the music aspect of our career, so we got with Neil and he stepped in right away and got to work. Our vision is now his vision, and everything is coming together like a movie. We trying to get that EMMY (GRAMMY)!!!!

What equipment do you guys use?

-The equipment we use today to produce consists of a Korg X5D, Fruity Loops 8, VST's, and live Guitars.

You say that you use VST's with fruity loops, which ones do you like the most or find the most useful?

-The ones we find ourselves running back to would have to be Steinberg's Hypersonic 2, because of its diverse sounds, its versatility and flexibility, it's easy on the user, and it's just one of the best, if not the best, complete all-around VSTs out right now. Some of our other go-to VSTs are Spectrasonics' Trilogy & Atmosphere, the Korg M1, Edirol Orchestral, and reFX's Nexus.

What’s your creative process?

-The creative process for us can vary from day to day. One day it might be that one of us has a concept for a beat and has already laid a few tracks down so then we can both add our different ideas into it. Another day might consist of us going into the studio and vibing to some old records to get some different ideas for a track.

In your journey of becoming an experienced producer what were some of your "ahh hah" moments?

-When we finally figured out how to use fruity loops to its full capabilities. It is such a great program because it is real user friendly and almost anyone can use it.

What made you decide to enter the contest this year?

-We made it one of our goals from last year to win it this year. We both had entered the contest separately last year and both made it to the semi-finals. We figured if we entered as a team this year we could win it all.

How did you decide which tracks to use to get the crowd into you?

-We really didn't pick the beats we were going to use until we got on stage and heard what the other producer was playing. We had experience from last year to help us out. We learned that you have to put on a show for the crowd and give them something to remember. The tracks you play have to have energy and you also have to be energetic on stage to win them over.

How did it feel to win the red bull challenge?

-It felt great because it was something we really wanted. We knew all along that we would win because of how much our music had progressed from the year before. The red bull big tune event is something that is starting to build a big buzz now and it was just an honor to be able to compete with so many great producers.

What’s your strategy for winning it all?

-Our strategy from the beginning of the night was just to keep hitten em with one big song after another. We had so many beats to choose from that night we could of kept battling.

What’s next for Sound M.O.B.?

-We have many things going on for us right now. We are starting to build a buzz now that we are trying to capitalize on. We are working with major artist such as Mya, Slim Thug, Chamillionaire, to name a few. We are also working with some of Houston's best up and coming independent artist such as Yung Krucial, T.C, Yung Gutta and Shostoppa. You can be sure that you will be hearing alot from us in the near future.
